Our Mission

We exist to end the stigma around mental health in Maine.

Common Ground Friends is a Maine-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by clinicians, advocates, and people in long-term recovery. We believe healing is a human right — and that the biggest barrier to it is not a lack of compassion, but the silence and shame that stigma creates. So we work project by project to replace judgment with understanding: through documentary storytelling, community gatherings, and a clinical foundation built on trauma-informed care.

We document

We make documentary film that puts a human face on Maine's mental health and homelessness crisis — starting with our feature film InhuMAINE, shot over 19 months in Bangor.

We convene

We bring communities together through screenings, panels, and honest public conversation — in Maine town halls, schools, festivals, and conferences across the Northeast.

We care

We hold a Maine state license for trauma-informed outpatient and counseling services. We are not currently accepting new clients, but care remains at the heart of who we are.

The Documentary

InhuMAINE

Official Trailer

clinical, social-justice, and narrative exploration of chronic homelessness, systemic failure, and human resilience in Bangor, Maine.

This is not a film about homelessness, but of a crisis of humanity. Bangor becomes a lens — a microcosm mirroring communities across America. InhuMAINE challenges the viewer to look closer, and to remember that all important matters are invisible until we learn to see them.

Our Work · A Manifesto

Three threads, one common ground.

We refuse the silos that keep care fragmented. Outpatient care, community, and art are not separate missions — they are one continuous act of seeing people fully.

01

Outpatient Services

Licensed outpatient and counseling care rooted in evidence-based, trauma-informed practice — built on the belief that recovery is a human right. We are currently not accepting new clients, but the door to conversation is always open.

Outpatient Services
02

Community

Connection is our core. Through grassroots partnership and case management, we help people experiencing homelessness and instability navigate housing, healthcare, and belonging — because healing happens when people are seen.

Community
03

Art

Documentary storytelling that restores visibility and narrative agency to the unseen. Our film InhuMAINE fuses advocacy and narrative healing into a gut-level call to action.

Clinical Services

Common Ground Friends offers outpatient and counseling services under our state license. We are currently not accepting new outpatient clients. For questions about future availability, reach out at hello@commongroundfriends.com.

Who We Are

Bridges, not silos.

From the frontlines of crisis care to the halls of policy reform, we partner across the state to expand access, elevate lived experience, and amplify solutions that work.
